Concerns remain despite win
MiddleweightUFC
October 18, 2019
Stewart defeated Deron Winn via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Friday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
It's rare that a fighter gives up six successful takedowns and lives to tell about it, but Winn has joined that select group and did so after securing a portion of Stewart's purse after the later missed weight on Thursday. Stewart was the far better striker of the two -- he dropped Winn with a huge shot at the very end of Round 2 before Winn was saved by the bell and won the significant strike battle by a 57-9 count -- but the poor takedown defense is a concern. Through nine UFC bouts, Stewart has found himself on the mat a whopping 22 times. Given that number, it's a minor miracle Stewart's career record with the company is .500 (4-4, 1NC). "The Dentist" won't have a prayer against better competition unless he improves in that area.

Does enough to win
MiddleweightUFC
June 8, 2019
Stewart defeated Bevon Lewis via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC 238 on Saturday in Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Stewart came out looking to land power strikes. He landed a few hard leg kicks to start the fight, and then Lewis went to the clinch. For the rest of the fight, Stewart was tentative to advance, because he did not want to deal with the clinch. Lewis was tentative to come forward, because he wanted to avoid power strikes. That was the rest of the fight. Stewart was the one moving forward, so the judges gave him the decision. Stewart really needed a win, but this was not an inspiring victory.
Draws Bevon Lewis in Greenville

May 1, 2019
Stewart will take on Bevon Lewis in a middleweight matchup at UFC Greenville on June 22, Jose Youngs of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stewart recently snapped a two-fight winning streak after falling to Edmen Shahbazyan via split decision last November. He's competed seven times in the UFC banner, which is likely large enough of a sample size to raise questions about his striking volume -- he lands just 2.96 significant strikes per minute. Lewis, on the other hand, landed 68 significant strikes in his UFC debut against Uriah Hall before getting knocked out in the third round.
Falls short in comeback attempt
MiddleweightUFC
November 30, 2018
Stewart lost to Edmen Shahbazyan via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at The Ultimate Fighter 28 Finale in Las Vegas on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Stewart likely came into this fight expecting a striking battle but instead had to fend off takedown attempts and submissions for the better part of three rounds. "The Dentist" got his window in the third, as the referee implored his opponent to fight back while eating hard shots on the ground but the bout was lost for good when Stewart gave up a final takedown in the waning seconds of the frame. Stewart came into the organization as a power wrestler, and has vastly improved his kickboxing game, but he needs to work on his grappling defense to avoid losing fights like this in the future. He falls to 9-4 with one no-contest in professional MMA as a result of the loss.
