ANALYSIS
While Skelly hasn't yet commented on the cancellation, Dawson announced Tuesday that the fight had been canceled for undisclosed reasons. Given the short notice, it's unlikely that either fighter will be able to compete at UFC 246. It's unclear when Skelly's next chance in the Octagon will be.

Set to fight Grant Dawson
FeatherweightUFC
October 29, 2019
Skelly (thumb) will fight Grant Dawson in a featherweight matchup at a UFC event scheduled for Jan. 18, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Skelly was facing an indefinite suspension for a right thumb injury, but the injury apparently won't keep him from fighting in January at the January event in Las Vegas that has yet to be officially announced. Skelly defeated Jordan Griffin via unanimous decision at UFC Vancouver in September, which snapped a two-fight losing streak and brought his record as an MMA fighter to 18-4. Dawson has shown a lack of power in his past fights, but managed to win each of his first two UFC fights and carries a 14-1 record as a professional fighter. Skelly carries a slight height advantage over Dawson, but the two are even in reach.

ANALYSIS
Skelly got back in the win column Saturday with an upset victory over Jordan Griffin, but didn't emerge completely unscathed in the process. He'll be on the shelf until next March unless a doctor clears him of any serious injury.
Uses grappling to snap losing streak
FeatherweightUFC
September 14, 2019
Skelly defeated Jordan Griffin via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN+ 16 on Saturday in Vancouver.
ANALYSIS
Skelly's counting stats unfortunately won't move the needle much for fantasy owners, but he nonetheless cashed in as a (+145) betting underdog. It was exactly what he needed to do to get a win against the more athletic prospect, and he executed this grappling-based game plan to perfection. When it was all said and done, Skelly recorded 21 significant strikes, three advances, one takedown and one reversal. The victory snapped a two-fight losing streak and improves Skelly's record to 18-4 as a professional.

Skelly announced Monday via his personal Twitter account that he has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled matchup against Jordan Griffin at UFC Minneapolis on June 29.
ANALYSIS
It's been a rough run for Skelly, who has lost back-to-back fights leading up to this announcement. He claims in the post that he will be back to full health to July and fighting shortly thereafer. It's unclear if the UFC will re-book this fight, or find a new opponent for Griffin on the Minneapolis card.
