Barber (knee) underwent successful surgery Monday to repair a torn ACL in her left knee, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Barber suffered a torn ACL in her loss to Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 246 in January, and her recovery timeline will likely be approximately nine months now that she's undergone surgery. The 21-year-old will spend some time on the shelf prior to rehabbing in hopes of returning to the Octagon in late 2020 or early 2021, barring any setbacks.

Barber has been suspended 180 days by the Nevada Athletic Commission pending clearance of a left knee injury, Steven Marrocco of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This is merely a formality at this point, as Barber has already disclosed a torn ACL that will keep her out of competition for approximately nine months. She wasn't going to return prior to the summer of 2020 anyway, so the announcement and resulting sanctions hold no bearing on her fighting future.

Barber is expected to miss the next nine months after suffering a complete tear of her left ACL, Brett Okamoto of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Barber apparently sustained the injury during the first round of her unanimous decision loss to Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 246 on Saturday, which helps explain the upset. The 21-year-old, who is 8-1 as a professional fighter, is expected to undergo surgery in California in the near future before beginning her rehab process in Las Vegas.
Stunned as -1000 favorite

Barber lost to Roxanne Modafferi via unanimous decision (27-30, 27-30, 26-30) at UFC 246 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Nothing is a given in this sport, as Barber -- who entered this fight as a -1000 favorite -- can now confirm. Maycee was severely compromised in the second half of the fight due to a knee injury, but the truth of the matter is she didn't look good prior to the issue. The 21-year-old Barber is supremely talented but her technical skills are a clear work in progress. She's a brawler who is learning the finer points of the sport and she was schooled tonight by one of the original pioneers of women's MMA. Barber is going to be upset about this result but it means next to nothing in the long run given how young she is. The knee injury is the bigger concern. Hopefully Barber isn't on the sidelines for too long. All she needs at this point is reps inside the octagon. The rest will take care of itself.
Will face Roxanne Modafferi

Barber will take on Roxanne Modafferi in a flyweight bout at UFC 246 on Jan. 18, Mike Bohn of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Barber has shown impressive power in her first three UFC fights, most recently defeating Gillian Robertson via TKO (punches) at UFC Boston in October. Barber's victory brought her record to 8-0 as a professional fighter, while Modafferi is coming off a loss to Jennifer Maia via unanimous decision in July that brought her professional record to 23-16. Modafferi has slight advantages in height and reach, but she will have her hands full with Barber, who has yet to be taken down in her first three UFC bouts.
Starches Gillian Robertson Friday

Barber defeated Gillian Robertson via TKO (punches) at 3:04 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Friday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
It's not clear if Barber's technical skills are lacking or if she simply feels more comfortable in a brawl, but every single fight in which she competes seems to turn into a war. Of course, when you have the power Barber possesses, along with the ability to generate offense from seemingly nowhere in a split second, you can cover up for a lot of potential technical mistakes. Given Barber's massive power, she seems like an exceptional bet moving forward as long as she can keep a fight standing, and she is yet to be taken down in any of her first three UFC bouts. Robertson failed on both her tries Friday. A perfect 3-0 with the company, Barber has earned KO wins in each and every appearance. It's a cliche and corny, but "The Future" is now.
