2020 Tournament PreviewMyles Powell and his 21.5 ppg scoring average would lead most power conferences, but he just so happens to play in the same league as the nation's leading scorer in Markus Howard (27.6 ppg). Powell is much more than just a pure scorer, however, as he chips in 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals. At 6-foot-2, Powell is the shortest player in a starting five composed entirely of upperclassmen. This experienced unit is 16th in KenPom's defensive efficiency metric while allowing opponents to an effective field goal percentage of 44.4, good for eighth in the nation. Two frontcourt anchors in Sandro Mamukelashvili (11.7 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and Romaro Gill (7.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg) protect the paint and give the Pirates the country's 10th-best block rate while allowing opponents to shoot 43.7 percent on two-point baskets (No. 16). This is a team that was able to overcome injuries to both Powell and Mamukelashvili that forced them each to miss time, but still managed to rack up double-digit Quadrant 1 wins. Now healthy, Kevin Willard's squad is more than capable of stringing together multiple victories in the dance.
