Kerry Blackshear Jr.
Lands with Florida
June 26, 2019
Blackshear announced Wednesday that he would join Florida as a graduate transfer for the 2019-20 season, Jeff Goodman of reports.
Blackshear previously declared for the 2019 NBA Draft earlier in the offseason, only to remove his name from consideration and enter the transfer portal. The big man had plenty of suitors after averaging 14.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 29.9 minutes per game for Virginia Tech last season and ultimately determined Florida was an ideal landing spot. With his new team, Blackshear should slot into one of the starting frontcourt spots, with Keyontae Johnson or incoming freshman Omar Payne likely filling the other. Although Blackshear sometimes struggles on the defensive end, he'll provide the Gators with an adept arsenal of offensive skills. There's double-double potential on a nightly basis, making him one of the SEC's top fantasy centers right out of the gates.
