Newman (kneecap) has stepped up his running regiment but isn't expected to be back until Round 7 or later, according to Director of High Performance Andrew Russell.
ANALYSIS
Newman only played twice last season and suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury in February. Look for him to return to the field at some point in May at the earliest, though he may be saved until later as a precaution.

March 2, 2021
Newman (knee) isn't expected to be in the picture to return within the near future, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Newman was stretchered off with a patella injury in mid-June, which subsequent scan revealed to be a season-ending patella tear. He remains without a specific date to retake the field but could see action at some point in 2021.

Newman (kneecap) recently suffered a setback in his recovery and is expected to miss Round 1, The Age reports.
ANALYSIS
Newman was reportedly progressing well in his recovery before a recent bout with kneecap inflammation, the severity of which is expected to keep him from beginning the season for the Blues. The club has left the chance of Newman returning in time for Round 2 open, however.

Newman will undergo season-ending surgery in the near future after scans Sunday confirmed that he ruptured the patellar tendon in his right knee in Saturday's 54-53 loss to Melbourne, Daniel Cherny of The Melbourne Age reports.
ANALYSIS
The news doesn't come as a major surprise after Newman was diagnosed with the injury shortly after being carted off the field Saturday. Newman, who had previously been sidelined for much of the AFL's hiatus while recovering from the elbow surgery he required following the Blues' Round 1 loss to Richmond in March, will now have to wait until 2021 to resume playing again after he latest procedure. He becomes the second Carlton player to suffer a season-ending kneecap injury, joining forward Charlie Curnow.

Newman departed Saturday's game on a stretcher with what has been deemed a patella tendon injury, Riley Beveridge of the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Newman's knee issue may be of the severe variety and seems likely to sideline him for an extended period of time. The medical staff should provide more information and a potential timetable on his recovery in the coming days.
