Mitch Hannan
Working through groin issue
FWestern Bulldogs
Groin
March 4, 2021
Hannan continues to deal with a groin injury, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hannan was a fringe player for the Bulldogs last season and isn't exactly a fantasy darling, but he should be part of the mix to draw in on a weekly basis when healthy. It remains to be seen if he will get right for the Round 1 clash with Collingwood.
Easton Wood
Still rehabbing hamstring issue
DWestern Bulldogs
Hamstring
March 4, 2021
Wood is still rehabbing a hamstring strain, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wood dealt with a hamstring issue late in 2020 so it's not a great sign that he's beginning 2021 off with a similar issue. It remains to be seen if he will be ready to take the field for Round 1, but more information should hit the airwaves the week of the game, but it appears the team's Community Series contest is out of the picture.
Jackson Macrae
Decent in loss
MWestern Bulldogs
October 3, 2020
Macrae logged 20 disposals (13 kicks, seven handballs) and made five marks during Saturday's 67-64 loss to St. Kilda.
ANALYSIS
Macrae was a fantasy and league star all season but had a less impressive showing in the first final. He'll finish 2020 with the second-most marks in the Premiership and now focus on preparing for next season.
Marcus Bontempelli
Season over after loss
MWestern Bulldogs
October 3, 2020
Bontempelli scored one behind to go with 20 disposals (14 kicks, six handballs) and made six tackles during Saturday's 67-64 loss to St. Kilda.
ANALYSIS
Bontempelli played a starring role down the stretch for the Bulldogs but their season ended in a tight loss. After a strong finish, Bontempelli will now put his efforts towards preparing for next season.
Caleb Daniel
Ends seasons with 26 disposals
DWestern Bulldogs
October 3, 2020
Daniel kicked one goal and logged 26 disposals (14 kicks, 12 handballs) during Saturday's 67-64 loss to St. Kilda.
ANALYSIS
Daniel didn't have the most consistent of seasons but he finished strong with at least 20 disposals in four of the last five Rounds. With a little bit more composure, both Daniel and the Bulldogs could improve even more next season.
Zaine Cordy
Finishes season with ankle injury
DWestern Bulldogs
Ankle
October 3, 2020
Cordy suffered an ankle injury during the second quarter of Saturday's 67-64 loss to St. Kilda, according to Michael Whiting of afl.com.
ANALYSIS
Cordy was an early loss that did more damage to the team than it would to fantasy given his low production. He'll now have to focus on getting healthy for next season.
Laitham Vandermeer
Deemed emergency option
DWestern Bulldogs
October 2, 2020
Vandermeer (hamstring) is listed as an emergency for Saturday's elimination final.
ANALYSIS
Vandermeer is unlikely to take part in the contest but would be available as a late addition to the lineup should it be necessary.
Aaron Naughton
Ready for qualifying final
FWestern Bulldogs
September 29, 2020
Naughton (head) is available for Saturday's elimination final versus the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Naughton suffered a head knock during the Bulldogs' home-and-away finale versus Fremantle but avoided major issue and will be ready as Western looks to continue its season. He should slot in up front again, looking to build off of his five goals in the last four matches.
Aaron Naughton
Suffers head knock in victory
FWestern Bulldogs
Head
September 21, 2020
Naughton ended with just four disposals, one mark and one goal in Sunday's 74-44 victory over Fremantle, before having to leave the game with a head knock.
ANALYSIS
Naughton clashed heads with Dockers' big man Sean Darcy and was taken to hospital for precautionary scans. Initial fears are that he has suffered a fractured cheekbone and if that is the case, he would be in serious doubt for their elimination final against the Saints in two weeks.
Tom Liberatore
Best on ground in victory
MWestern Bulldogs
September 21, 2020
Liberatore amassed 25 disposals (12 kicks, 13 handballs), eight tackles and two marks in Sunday's 74-44 victory over the Dockers.
ANALYSIS
Liberatore saved his best for last, guiding the Bulldogs to a comfortable victory on Sunday. In what was his best performance of the season, Liberatore joined a host of other midfielders in demonstrating why the Bulldogs have arguably the best young roster in the league. They will now face the Saints in an elimination final in two weeks with both teams heading into the match with some serious momentum.
Lachlan Hunter
Stars as Bulldogs secure finals berth
FWestern Bulldogs
September 21, 2020
Hunter finished with 35 disposals (17 kicks, 18 handballs), seven marks, three behinds and one goal in Sunday's 74-44 victory over the Dockers.
ANALYSIS
The Bulldogs were too good for the Dockers on Sunday, securing a 30 point victory and assuring themselves of a spot in the finals. Hunter has been fantastic since returning from injury in round 12 and marked a season-high with 35 disposals to go with four inside-50s and five clearances. The Bulldogs will face the Saints in what promises to be a fast-paced matchup with both teams certainly a chance of taking the victory.
Matt Suckling
Out for Round 18
DWestern Bulldogs
Hamstring
September 19, 2020
Suckling will not play in Sunday's Round 18 contest versus the Dockers due to a hamstring injury.
ANALYSIS
Suckling just returned from a hamstring issue last Sunday but is apparently feeling some lingering effects from it and won't be in action in Round 18. If his teammates pull off the win without him, Suckling could return to action in the first round of the finals in early October.
Easton Wood
Back for finale
DWestern Bulldogs
September 19, 2020
Wood (hamstring) will return to the lineup for Sunday's match versus the Dockers.
ANALYSIS
Wood could be an important piece for the Bulldogs in Sunday's season-defining clash that will determine whether or not Western will make the finals. He's set to serve as a full back alongside Caleb Daniel and Alex Keath for the contest.
Toby McLean
Diagnosed with ACL injury
FWestern Bulldogs
Knee - ACL
September 13, 2020
McLean suffered an ACL injury in Sunday's victory over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
McLean was stretchered off the field shortly after he booted the first goal of the game Sunday, and he'll miss a significant period of time while he recovers. He'll receive a surgical opinion in the coming days, but he could miss at least a significant portion of the 2021 season due to the injury.
Timothy English
Boots first career bag in victory
RWestern Bulldogs
September 13, 2020
English ended with eight disposals (five kicks, three handballs), five tackles, four marks and two goals in Sunday's 76-40 victory over Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
English booted two goals in Sunday's victory as the Bulldogs moved inside the top-8 with only one game remaining. English is arguably the best young ruckman in the league right now, although consistency remains an issue. The ups-and-downs mean he is not going to be for everyone when it comes to fantasy but the future is bright and he figures to be an elite option for many seasons to come.
Marcus Bontempelli
Vintage performance in victory
MWestern Bulldogs
September 13, 2020
Bontempelli finished with 28 disposals (18 kicks, 10 handballs), eight marks and six tackles in Sunday's 76-40 victory over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Bontempelli continues to be the stand-out player for the Bulldogs, leading them to their fourth win from their last five games. In fact, their only losses over the past two months have come against arguably the best four teams in the league. Bontempelli is one of the elite fantasy options and given the Bulldogs have a lot to play for next week against the Dockers, he makes sense as an add in all formats.
Toby McLean
Suffers knee injury Sunday
FWestern Bulldogs
Knee
September 13, 2020
McLean finished with one disposal and one goal in Sunday's 76-40 victory over the Hawks before being stretchered off the ground with a knee injury.
ANALYSIS
McLean booted the first goal of the game but was forced from the field only moments later after a Hawks player fell across his knee, leaving him in a lot of pain. He will be sent for scans on Monday, however, there are fears he may have suffered an ACL injury which would likely signal the end to his season.
Lin Jong
Season officially over
MWestern Bulldogs
Ankle
September 12, 2020
Jong (ankle) will undergo season-ending ankle surgery and begin to rehab for 2021.
ANALYSIS
Jong powered through a pre-season hamstring injury to make his season-debut in Round 2 before eventually suffering a Syndesmosis ankle injury in Round 5 that has kept him out since. With only two matches remaining in the regular season, the team believed it was best for Jong to get surgery and prepare to come back for a full season in 2021.
Matt Suckling
Returning Sunday
DWestern Bulldogs
September 12, 2020
Suckling (hamstring) will be available for Sunday's match against Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
After missing significant time with a hamstring injury, Suckling will make his return Sunday. The defender doesn't typically stuff the stat sheet, but his return will give the club a boost on the defensive end.
Jackson Macrae
Logs 29 disposals in win
MWestern Bulldogs
September 6, 2020
Macrae logged 29 disposals (10 kicks, 19 handballs) and made three tackles during Sunday's 49-47 win over West Coast.
ANALYSIS
Macrae is always one to dominate in possession and this match was no different despite the close scoreline. He'll hope to put together an even better match during a favorable schedule to finish the season.
Josh Dunkley
Strong in win
MWestern Bulldogs
September 6, 2020
Dunkley scored one major and two behinds while also logging 22 disposals (seven kicks 15 handballs) and making nine tackles during Sunday's 49-47 win over West Coast.
ANALYSIS
Dunkley hasn't done anything that special since Round 2, and he was one of the highlights of this contest as Bulldogs secured an important victory. With a favorable schedule to finish the season, Dunkley could surpass his usual stats to help his team sneak into the finals.
Marcus Bontempelli
Potentially saves season in win
MWestern Bulldogs
September 6, 2020
Bontempelli scored one goal and logged one behind while also logging 21 disposals (12 kicks, nine handballs) in addition to making five marks during Sunday's 49-47 win over West Coast.
ANALYSIS
Bontempelli kicked his major late into the contest and it proved decisive in helping his club secure the result, which will keep them hopeful of making the finals. He's now scored in five straight starts and logged 21 or more disposals in all but one of those matches. He'll get a favorable schedule to finish out the season.
Easton Wood
Out Sunday
DWestern Bulldogs
Hamstring
September 5, 2020
Wood (hamstring) is not available for Sunday's match against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Wood's hamstring issue forced him out of last week's contest against Geelong and will keep him sidelined for at least around longer. Look for another update on his status when he's cleared to rejoin the action.
Zaine Cordy
Rejoining lineup
DWestern Bulldogs
September 5, 2020
Cordy (chest) will return to the lineup for Sunday's match versus the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Cordy has missed the past couple of weeks while dealing with a minor chest muscle strain. Fortunately, that issue appears to be behind him and he will retake a spot as a full back alongside Caleb Daniel and Alex Keath on Sunday.
Caleb Daniel
Collects 20 disposals in loss
DWestern Bulldogs
August 28, 2020
Daniel ended with 20 disposals (13 kicks, seven handballs), three marks, two tackles and one behind in Friday's 72-61 loss to Geelong.
ANALYSIS
After a run of four somewhat unproductive games, Daniel got things going Friday. After back-to-back wins, the loss has the Bulldogs on the verge of dropping out of the top-8 come the end of the round. They certainly have the talent to compete on the big stage but they are yet to translate that into wins.
