Rory Atkins
Slated to miss start of season
MGold Coast Suns
Foot
March 4, 2021
Atkins is in line to miss the opening of the season due to a foot issue, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Atkins has reportedly rejoined the main group but won't be quite up to speed for the start of the season. Look for more information to surface when he's cleared for his first AFL action of the 2021 home and away season.
Zac Smith
Out three months
RGold Coast Suns
Knee - PCL
March 3, 2021
Smith will miss "up to 12 weeks" after injuring his PCL during Saturday's practice match against Brisbane.
ANALYSIS
There's a chance that Smith could return in fewer than three months, but for now that's a safe estimate for when he could return. This leaves the Suns heavily reliant on Jarrod Witts heading into the new season and Smith will hope to return in late-spring after not playing a single time in 2020.
Alex Sexton
Finishes season with three goals
FGold Coast Suns
September 20, 2020
Sexton scored three goals and collected 12 disposals (10 kicks, two handballs) in addition to making seven marks during Sunday's 108-57 loss to Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
Sexton had a productive finish to a disappointing season as he scored eight goals over his last three starts. Though he doesn't touch the footy enough to be a reliable pick, Sexton's value could improve when the Suns are healthy next season.
Noah Anderson
Finishes season well
FGold Coast Suns
September 20, 2020
Anderson collected 25 disposals (16 kicks, nine handballs) and made four clearances during Sunday's 108-57 loss to Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was one of the few rising stars to survive the season without succumbing to injury. He logged at least 23 disposals in three of the last four matches and is one to watch as he develops and as Matthew Rowell returns from a shoulder injury next season.
David Swallow
Collects 27 disposals in loss
FGold Coast Suns
September 20, 2020
Swallow scored one behind to go with 27 disposals (15 kicks, 12 handballs) and 11 clearances from Sunday's 108-57 loss to Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
Swallow was one of three Suns players to top 20 disposals during a difficult finish to the season. Through his defensive work, Swallow was able to maintain a decent value for most of the season. As long as he's still with the club next season, Swallow's value could go up as the team improves.
Nick Holman
Ruled out against Hawks
FGold Coast Suns
Finger
September 19, 2020
Holman has a fractured finger and will not play in Saturday's match against the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Holman fractured his finger during Monday's loss to Collingwood. He managed to play through the injury Monday, but it's been determined that he won't play Saturday.
Sean Lemmens
Out for finale
MGold Coast Suns
Leg
September 19, 2020
Lemmens (leg) will miss the action for Sunday's season finale versus Hawthorn.
ANALYSIS
Lemmens departed the previous round prematurely due to a leg injury and it is apparently serious enough to prevent him from taking the field Sunday. His next chance to take the pitch comes in 2021.
Ben Ainsworth
Back for finale
MGold Coast Suns
September 19, 2020
ANALYSIS
Ainsworth missed the previous tilt due to an illness but appears to be over the issue and he will retake his spot among the 22. He's set to serve as a half forward alongside Ben King and Josh Corbett.
Lachie Weller
Productive night in loss
MGold Coast Suns
September 15, 2020
Weller ended with 23 disposals (12 kicks, 11 handballs), four tackles and three marks in Monday's 68-46 loss to Collingwood.
ANALYSIS
Weller had arguably his best game of the season, totaling 23 disposals, just one short of his season-high. He also added five clearances and four inside-50s to round out a well-balanced performance. While his upside is somewhat limited, Weller has added an element of consistency to his game of late and is worth considering as we head into the final round of the regular season.
Touk Miller
Tops tackle count in loss
MGold Coast Suns
September 15, 2020
Miller contributed 22 disposals (10 kicks, 12 handballs), nine tackles, four marks and one behind in Monday's 68-46 loss to the Magpies.
ANALYSIS
Miller continues to rack up the tackles on a consistent basis, adding a season-high nine to his burgeoning total. He currently ranks fourth in the league in total tackles and has been one of the Suns' best players this season. With their chances of finals footy having come and gone, the Suns will be looking to next season and Miller figures to be a big part of their future plans.
Sean Lemmens
Night ends early due to leg issue
MGold Coast Suns
Leg
September 14, 2020
Lemmens was unable to finish Monday's match versus the Magpies due to a leg injury.
ANALYSIS
Lemmens was unable to post any meaningful stats prior to departing the contest, posting goose eggs across the board. With Gold Coast out of the finals contention, he will have just one opportunity to play again before the season runs out and he turns his sights toward 2021.
Connor Budarick
Fractures collarbone
DGold Coast Suns
Collarbone
September 13, 2020
Budarick will miss the final two games of the season with a fractured collarbone.
ANALYSIS
Budarick had appeared in every game for the Suns this season, but his season will come to an end following his injury. Jarrod Harbrow will take his spot in the lineup.
Ben Ainsworth
Won't play Monday
MGold Coast Suns
Illness
September 13, 2020
Ainsworth won't play Monday against Collingwood due to an illness.
ANALYSIS
Ainsworth had one of his best performances of the season against North Melbourne, but he won't be able to play Monday. Whether he'll be ready for the final game of the regular season Sunday remains to be seen. He'll be replaced by Nick Holman in the lineup.
Ben Ainsworth
Scores one in loss
MGold Coast Suns
September 9, 2020
Ainsworth kicked one goal and logged 18 disposals (10 kicks, eight handballs) during Wednesday's 88-43 loss to Brisbane.
ANALYSIS
Ainsworth fell back to earth following his best showing of the season against North Melbourne. At this point with not much to play for, Ainsworth may not be the best option outside of extremely favorable matchups.
Hugh Greenwood
Consistent despite loss
MGold Coast Suns
September 9, 2020
Greenwood logged 23 disposals (13 kicks, 10 handballs), made six tackles in addition to completing seven clearances during Wednesday's 88-43 loss to Brisbane.
ANALYSIS
Greenwood continues to lead the league in tackles by a wide margin and remain more valuable even as his club struggles to score consistently. He'll continue to fight hard over the final two matches of the season and should be able to produce no matter the opponent.
Brandon Ellis
Steps up despite loss
FGold Coast Suns
September 9, 2020
Ellis logged 25 disposals (18 kicks, seven handballs) and made six marks during Wednesday's 88-43 loss to Brisbane.
ANALYSIS
Ellis tied for the team lead in disposals but couldn't get much going offensively against his rivals. This match marked the first time in five matches that Ellis topped 20 disposals, and he'll see if he can do it again when facing Collingwood before a simpler task against Hawthorn.
Rory Thompson
Done for season
DGold Coast Suns
Knee - ACL
September 8, 2020
Thompson has undergone a knee reconstruction and will miss the remainder of the 2020 campaign, Josh Cheadle of the Suns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson and the club were hoping the damage wasn't severe enough to warrant a procedure, but the scans indicated it was the necessary avenue. On a positive note, it wasn't a full ACL tear, so there's a chance the recovery period required will be somewhat shorter.
Alex Sexton
Scores four in win
FGold Coast Suns
August 30, 2020
Sexton scored four majors during Sunday's 91-28 win over North Melbourne.
ANALYSIS
Sexton bagged his best goal tally of the season in the comprehensive win for his club. He's one of a number of talented youngsters for Suns, and this effort could be a better indicator of what he could do in the future more than what he might do during a tough schedule to finish the season.
Ben King
Puts four behind in win
FGold Coast Suns
August 30, 2020
King scored two majors and kicked four behinds while also making six marks during Sunday's 91-28 win over North Melbourne.
ANALYSIS
King had one of his more productive efforts of the season but still could have done even more to pad the scoreline in a one-sided contest. His production has been anything but valuable all season, but this match could be a good barometer for a big game either at the end of this season or in the next.
Ben Ainsworth
Strong in win
MGold Coast Suns
August 30, 2020
Ainswoth scored one goal and two behinds while also collecting 23 disposals (19 kicks, four handballs) and making 11 marks during Sunday's 91-28 win over North Melbourne.
ANALYSIS
Ainsworth lead the line for Suns' young players as they roundly took apart the 'Roos. In the end, Ainsworth finished with his best game of the season by some distance and still had the opportunities to put up an even better scoreline. As the season winds down, Ainsworth will have to deal with a tough schedule, though if he and his teammates can keep up their momentum, they can go toe-to-toe with any opponent.
Jarrod Witts
Collects 21 hitouts in loss
RGold Coast Suns
August 21, 2020
Witts tallied nine disposals (five kicks, four handballs) and two tackles in Friday's 60-27 loss to Carlton.
ANALYSIS
Witts topped the hitout count during Friday's loss but offered little else during a somewhat uninspiring performance. Currently sitting second across the league when it comes to total hitouts, Witts has been a solid presence in the middle for the Suns. The team has failed to win a game in over a month and is unlikely to feature in the finals despite a positive start to the campaign.
Hugh Greenwood
Continues to thwart opposition
MGold Coast Suns
August 21, 2020
Greenwood totaled 11 disposals (seven kicks, four handballs) and 11 tackles in Friday's 60-27 loss to the Blues.
ANALYSIS
Greenwood sits atop the tackle count this season and continued his bothersome tactics despite an underwhelming team performance. He has recorded multiple tackles in five games this season, often resulting in elite fantasy production.
George Horlin-Smith
Removed from injury list
DGold Coast Suns
August 20, 2020
Horlin-Smith (foot) no longer sports an injury designation on the team's injury list.
ANALYSIS
Horlin-Smith has been sidelined since early June by a foot injury that occurred during an intrasquad scrimmage. He wasn't a consistent presence in the lineup for Gold Coast last year either, appearing in just seven games, where he compiled a total of 87 disposals.
Jeremy Sharp
Off injury list
MGold Coast Suns
August 20, 2020
Sharp (hip) is no longer labeled on the Suns' injury list.
ANALYSIS
Sharp didn't contribute a ton prior to the hip issue, taking part in just one match for the Suns, where he produced nine disposals and a mark. He should be available for selection moving forward but isn't a guaranteed presence in the 22.
Rory Thompson
Suffers partial ACL tear
DGold Coast Suns
Knee - ACL
August 20, 2020
Thompson has suffered a partial ACL tear and will miss some time.
ANALYSIS
The team hasn't quantified exactly how long it expects to be without Thompson, but he will spend some additional time on the sidelines as he continues to work his way back from the newest issue. Thompson was just two games back from a knee reconstruction in his other knee when he left the field early.
