Levi Casboult
Working back from knee issue
FCarlton Blues
Knee
March 3, 2021
Casboult suffered a jarred knee in the team's intraclub match and will skip the Community Series game versus St. Kilda as a result, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Casboult is believed to be a candidate to take the field for Round 1 still, but his status will be worth monitoring as the opener approaches. The forward appeared in 17 games for the Blues last season, tallying 10 goals and eight behinds on the season while averaging 8.9 disposals and 4.7 marks.
Mitch McGovern
Battling low-grade hamstring injury
FCarlton Blues
Hamstring
March 3, 2021
McGovern is dealing with a low-grade hamstring injury, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
McGovern is set to miss the Community Series game against the Saints but may still be in the mix for inclusion for the Round 1 meeting with the Tigers. More information on his status for that contest should surface as the regular season approaches.
Liam Stocker
Deemed emergency option
DCarlton Blues
March 3, 2021
Stocker holds an emergency spot ahead of Thursday's Community Series game versus St. Kilda, Cristian Filippo of Carlton's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stocker seems unlikely to see any action Thursday barring a required late lineup change, but he's at least back in the fold for 2021 after leaving the team last season for personal reasons and not rejoining it later in the season.
Jack Silvagni
Listed as interchange
FCarlton Blues
March 3, 2021
Silvagni is among the interchanges for Thursday's Community Series game versus St. Kilda, Cristian Filippo of Carlton's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Silvagni's 2020 campaign ended with him on the sidelines but he's back healthy and ready to kick off his 2021 preseason with solid showing. He didn't produce much last season in terms of fantasy, averaging just 0.7 goals, 0.7 behinds, 5.3 disposals and 1.7 marks in his three inclusions.
Will Setterfield
Healthy to open 2021
MCarlton Blues
March 3, 2021
Setterfield (calf) is healthy and in the lineup for the 2021 Community Series clash with the Saints, Cristian Filippo of Carlton's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Setterfield skipped the 2020 season finale due to a calf issue but has since recovered and is in good shape as the 2021 regular season approaches. He closed out 2020 averaging 15.3 disposals, 1.8 marks and 5.2 tackles per contest.
Zac Fisher
Ready for Community Series
MCarlton Blues
March 3, 2021
Fisher (shoulder) will play in Thursday's Community Series game versus the Saints, Cristian Filippo of Carlton's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fisher closed out 2020 on the sidelines due to a shoulder complaint but appears to be in much better shape as the 2021 season fast approaches. He's listed as a forward alongside Marc Murphy and Harry McKay for the contest.
Sam Docherty
In lineup for Community Series
DCarlton Blues
March 3, 2021
Docherty (calf) is good to go for the Community Series match versus St. Kilda, Cristian Filippo of Carlton's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Docherty's 2020 season ended with him on the sidelines, but he's back in the mix for the Blues and ready to start as a back. The 27-year-old finished out the 2020 campaign averaging 18.6 disposals -- 13.5 kicks and 5.1 handballs -- and 5.2 marks per contest.
Nic Newman
No immediate return in picture
DCarlton Blues
Kneecap
March 2, 2021
Newman (knee) isn't expected to be in the picture to return within the near future, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Newman was stretchered off with a patella injury in mid-June, which subsequent scan revealed to be a season-ending patella tear. He remains without a specific date to retake the field but could see action at some point in 2021.
Brodie Kemp
Still on the mend
MCarlton Blues
Knee
March 2, 2021
Kemp (knee) is still viewed in a long-term lense in terms of his return to the field, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Kemp spent all of 2020 on the sidelines due to injury and remains in recovery from the same knee issue. More information on his status should surface as he draws nearer to game action.
Charlie Curnow
Facing more time on the sidelines
FCarlton Blues
Knee
March 2, 2021
Curnow (knee) is still viewed as a long-term prospect to retake the field, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Curnow sat out all of 2020 because of the knee injury and apparently requires some more time to get back to his normal self. It's unclear exactly when he will be cleared to retake the field at this time.
Sam Philp
Will miss Round 1
MCarlton Blues
Hip
March 2, 2021
Philp will skip Round 1 versus Richmond because of a hip flexor injury, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Philp appeared in two games for the Blues last season and combined to tally a goal, a behind and 14 disposals. The 19-year-old former first-round pick figures to challenge for more action during the 2021 season but will need to get right before that's an option.
Caleb Marchbank
Out for Round 1
DCarlton Blues
Calf
March 2, 2021
Marchbank will miss Round 1 versus the Tigers due to a calf injury, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marchbank hasn't appeared in an AFL contest since 2019 and will apparently have to wait a little longer to do so because of a calf complaint. The severity of the issue doesn't appear to be too high at this juncture, so there's a chance his season debut is just around the corner.
Nic Newman
Suffers setback
DCarlton Blues
Kneecap
February 21, 2021
Newman (kneecap) recently suffered a setback in his recovery and is expected to miss Round 1, The Age reports.
ANALYSIS
Newman was reportedly progressing well in his recovery before a recent bout with kneecap inflammation, the severity of which is expected to keep him from beginning the season for the Blues. The club has left the chance of Newman returning in time for Round 2 open, however.
Patrick Cripps
Suffers shoulder injury in loss
MCarlton Blues
September 19, 2020
Cripps had 11 disposals (three kicks, eight handballs) and two tackles in Saturday's 78-61 loss to Brisbane.
ANALYSIS
In the final game of the season, Cripps battled through a shoulder injury and was ultimately unable to finish the game. He did return in the second half but with the result all but decided, he was pulled from the field shortly thereafter and remained on the bench until the final siren. Cripps is one of the Blues' most promising young players and certainly figures to be a big part of their future moving forward.
Kade Simpson
Kicks first goal of the season
DCarlton Blues
September 19, 2020
Simpson finished with 19 disposals (16 kicks, three handballs), three tackles, two marks and one goal in Saturday's 78-61 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Simpson played the 342nd game of his career on Saturday, bringing to an end his illustrious career. It was certainly not the result he would have been hoping for, although he did manage to kick his first goal of the season. Simpson has been a fantastic asset for the Blues and will be fondly remembered by everyone involved with the club.
Will Setterfield
Will miss finale
MCarlton Blues
Calf
September 18, 2020
Setterfield will sit out the Blues' season finale Saturday versus Brisbane due to a minor calf issue, Cristian Silippio of the Blues' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Setterfield's issue shouldn't leak over into 2021 at all, but it will prevent him from returning to the pitch for one last time this season. He was among three Blues players whose seasons will end in Round 17 through injury.
Jack Martin
Set to play in finale
MCarlton Blues
Calf
September 16, 2020
Martin (calf) is in line to retake the field for Saturday's home-and-away finale versus Brisbane, Marni Olson-Young of the Blues' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Martin was omitted from the lineup last week due to a calf injury that surfaced the previous match versus Sydney. Fortunately, the complaint was mild enough that he will be able to close his 2020 campaign out on a high note before heading to the offseason.
Zac Fisher
Won't play in finale
MCarlton Blues
Shoulder
September 16, 2020
Fisher (shoulder) will sit out the final round of the home-and-away season, Marni Olson-Young of the Blues' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Director of High Performance Andrew Russell indicated that Fisher would likely be sidelined for 3-to-4 weeks had the issue occurred in the middle of the season, so there is no chance he will be able to make it back just a week after suffering the issue. Fisher will instead turn his focus toward gearing up for 2021.
Sam Docherty
Set to miss finale
DCarlton Blues
Calf
September 16, 2020
Docherty (calf) will not play in the final game of the 2020 season, Marni Olson-Young of the Blues' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Docherty exited with a calf injury in the first quarter of the team's last match versus Adelaide and the issue will keep the co-captain on the sidelines for the team's finale. He will presumably aim to retake the field during the 2021 season.
Kade Simpson
Set to retire
DCarlton Blues
September 15, 2020
Simpson will retire following the 2020 campaign.
ANALYSIS
Simpson's decision means he has just one game remaining in his AFL career, which comes Saturday against Brisbane. He's performed reasonably well for the Blues on the back end this season, averaging 15.3 disposals, 4.0 marks and one tackle per contest over 16 games and has been a member his entire career dating back to 2003, when he made his debut.
Harry McKay
Scores four in loss
FCarlton Blues
September 13, 2020
McKay kicked four majors and one behind in addition to making six marks during Saturday's 72-56 win over Adelaide.
ANALYSIS
McKay was a one-man attack as the Blues came close to a comeback, but never really challenged their in-form opponents. He's kicked seven majors and logged six behinds from his last three Rounds and is worth the look going into the final Round of the season.
Will Setterfield
Scores major in loss
MCarlton Blues
September 13, 2020
Setterfield kicked one major and logged 16 disposals (10 kicks, six handballs) in addition to making nine tackles during Saturday's 72-56 loss to Adelaide.
ANALYSIS
Setterfield hasn't been worth regular focus since he doesn't get many touches but on his day he can put up some impressive statistics. He'll finish the season as one of the top tacklers in the premiership and could be worth selection against Brisbane as he's played well against the league's best all summer long.
Sam Walsh
Strong effort despite loss
FCarlton Blues
September 12, 2020
Walsh collected 22 disposals (12 kicks, 12 handballs) to go with six marks made and six tackles completed during Saturday's 72-56 loss to Adelaide.
ANALYSIS
Walsh has continued to be one of the best for the Blues as they stumble to the finish line. This match saw the likely end of their finals hopes but Walsh still put up a respectable stat line for fantasy. For how well he's scored lately, Walsh could represent good value for the final Round of the season against Brisbane.
Zac Fisher
Hurts shoulder in loss
MCarlton Blues
Shoulder
September 12, 2020
Fisher hurt his shoulder during Saturday's 72-56 loss to Adelaide, according to Callum Twomey of the league's official website.
ANALYSIS
Though it's unclear how Fisher is currently doing, he only scored one behind and logged eight disposals during the contest. His production has sagged clearly as he's failed to surpass eight disposals in two of his last three appearances. With this injury, Fisher's status may be less certain for the final Round of the season against Brisbane.
Sam Docherty
Suffers injury in loss
DCarlton Blues
Calf
September 12, 2020
Docherty went down with a calf injury in the first quarter of Saturday's 72-56 loss to Adelaide.
ANALYSIS
Docherty didn't last long before having to leave the field. Though capable of some solid efforts, Docherty didn't play well down the stretch and suffered the injury with his team needing all the help they could get to make the finals. Now, Docherty is unlikely to play in the finals with the Blues' exclusion all but assured and his status may be less clear in a less-meaningful final match of the season against Brisbane.
