Nakia Cockatoo
Expected to miss opener
MBrisbane Lions
Hamstring
March 2, 2021
Cockatoo isn't expected to be ready for the opener after suffering a recent hamstring injury, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Cockatoo hasn't appeared on the AFL side since 2018 and missed most of last season due to a wrist injury. It's not exactly the way he would want to start things off this season, but he hasn't officially been ruled out for the opener at this juncture.
Connor McFadyen
Still months from return
FBrisbane Lions
Knee - ACL
March 2, 2021
McFadyen (ACL) remains a few months away from his return, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
McFadyen missed a large portion of the 2020 season due to his ruptured ACL and appears to still need more time to get right. The 20-year-old forward has yet to debut on the AFL side but could eventually push for an opportunity if his recovery remains on track.
Darcy Gardiner
Will miss Round 1
DBrisbane Lions
Knee
March 2, 2021
Gardiner underwent a procedure to clean up his knee during the offseason and won't be available for Round 1 versus West Coast, the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Gardiner's knee injury dates back to late in the 2020 season but the cleanup procedure occurred in the offseason to help get it back on track. While he wil miss the opener, Gardiner is expected to be back soon after.
Grant Birchall
Injures hamstring in loss
DBrisbane Lions
Hamstring
October 17, 2020
Birchall hurt his hamstring during Saturday's loss to Geelong.
ANALYSIS
Birchall will have plenty of time to recover after his team lost in the preliminary finals. Throughout the season, Birchall wasn't one to provide consistent beyond meager disposal stats.
Charlie Cameron
Scores two in loss
FBrisbane Lions
October 17, 2020
Cameron scored two goals and collected five disposals during Saturday's 82-42 loss to Geelong.
ANALYSIS
Cameron kept up his goalscoring record but was otherwise shut down while his club was eliminated from the finals. He finishes the season tied for third in scoring with 31 goals.
Lincoln McCarthy
Decent in loss
MBrisbane Lions
October 17, 2020
McCarthy logged 14 disposals (six kicks, eight handballs) and made eight tackles during Saturday's 82-42 loss to Geelong.
ANALYSIS
McCarthy was one of a few players to serve much value during a disappointing loss that resulted in elimination from the finals. McCarthy had a stretch where he scored a goal in 10-of-12 Rounds in the middle of the season, but was otherwise too inconsistent in possession. His season is now over.
Lachie Neale
Finishes season with two goals
MBrisbane Lions
October 17, 2020
Neale scored two goals in addition to collecting 24 disposals (10 kicks, 14 handballs), making five marks and completing eight clearances during Saturday's 82-42 loss to Brisbane.
ANALYSIS
Neale finishes his season with a strong showing more akin to his performances at the beginning of the summer. However, it wasn't enough to help his club advance during a bad loss to Geelong in the preliminary final.
Jack Payne
Late call up Saturday
DBrisbane Lions
October 17, 2020
Payne was a late inclusion for the Lions on Saturday, replacing Darcy Gardiner who was ruled out with a knee injury.
ANALYSIS
Payne will play just the fifth game of his career as the Lions look to advance to their first Grand Final since 2004. Yet to establish himself as a regular part of the Lions rotation, this will undoubtedly be the biggest game of his life. Based on his season numbers, the Lions will simply be hoping he can hold his own against what can be a potent Geelong forward line.
Darcy Gardiner
Ruled out Saturday
DBrisbane Lions
Knee
October 17, 2020
Gardiner (knee) has been ruled out of Saturday's preliminary final after succumbing to a knee injury, per Fox Footy.
ANALYSIS
Gardiner was a late scratch for the Lions ahead of the Grand Final qualifier. After missing just one game all season, it is a big blow and certainly has an impact on their typically stout defensive line. Gardiner will be replaced by Jack Payne, who will play just the fifth game of his young career.
Noah Answerth
Still sidelined
DBrisbane Lions
Groin
October 16, 2020
Answerth (groin) will not play in Saturday's preliminary final versus Geelong.
ANALYSIS
Answerth was considered a test for the contest after sitting out since Sept. 13 because of the groin issue. It's unclear if he has gotten right ahead of the contest and was up for selection, but he's not among the 22 set to take on the Cats.
Noah Answerth
Question mark for preliminary final
DBrisbane Lions
Groin
October 13, 2020
Answerth is considered a test for Saturday's preliminary final versus Geelong, Michael Whiting of the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Answerth has been sidelined since Sept. 13 because of a groin issue, but it's possible he won't be included in the lineup even if he makes his way back in time for selection.
Harris Andrews
Notches 12 disposals
DBrisbane Lions
October 2, 2020
Andrews (hamstring) racked up 12 disposals and seven marks in his return to action Friday versus Richmond.
ANALYSIS
Andrews and the Lions took care of business to secure a spot in the preliminary finals and have a pretty healthy squad as they pursue a championship.
Jarryd Lyons
Logs 24 disposals in win
MBrisbane Lions
October 2, 2020
Lyons scored one behind to go with 24 disposals (16 kicks, eight handballs) in addition to making six marks and completing seven clearances during Friday's 69-54 win over Richmond.
ANALYSIS
Lyons has been exceptionally productive all season long and the finals opener was no exception. Aside from three matches in which he didn't top 20 disposals, Lyons serves as an important part of the midfield and Friday's match was no exception. He'll have another break in anticipation of the next match of the finals.
Charlie Cameron
Powers Lions to win
FBrisbane Lions
October 2, 2020
Cameron scored three goals to go with 11 disposals (10 kicks, one handball) and made four tackles during Friday's 69-54 win over Richmond.
ANALYSIS
Cameron was at the center of a fiery night as he sparked tensions between the two teams and some excellent attacking play from his own. It's worth continuing to look Cameron's way, as he's on a streak of seven goals and six behinds from his last four Rounds.
Daniel Rich
Huge in win
DBrisbane Lions
October 2, 2020
Rich scored one goal to go with 20 disposals (18 kicks, two handballs) and made nine marks during Friday's 69-54 win over Richmond.
ANALYSIS
Rich had an exceptional finish to the season and this contest was no exception as he played a big role in securing a first victory in this year's finals. He hasn't logged more than 23 disposals over his last four matches, but has still topped 20 in each of those Rounds and contributed with excellent tallies of marks. He'll now have a break in anticipation of the next match of the finals.
Tom Fullarton
Off injury list
FBrisbane Lions
September 29, 2020
Fullarton (quad) isn't among the players dealing with an injury leading into Friday's qualifying final, Michael Whiting of the AFL's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Even with the quad issue seemingly behind him, Fullarton is unlikely to be included in the Lions' lineup Friday. He played in just two matches all season for Brisbane and departed the second one prematurely due to injury.
Jarrod Berry
Ready for qualifying final
MBrisbane Lions
September 29, 2020
Berry has moved past the shoulder issue and will be available for selection Friday versus Richmond.
ANALYSIS
Berry sat out the final two matches of the home-and-away season because of the issue but should be a big part of the Lions' midfield as they look to advance into the preliminary finals.
Mitch Robinson
Collects a pair of majors in win
FBrisbane Lions
September 19, 2020
Robinson tallied 14 disposals (12 kicks, two handballs), three tackles, two goals, one behind and one mark in Saturday's 78-61 victory over the Blues.
ANALYSIS
Robinson booted multiple goals for the first time this season as the Lions recorded their 14th win of the season, guaranteeing them a home preliminary final against either the Tigers, Eagles or Cats. Robinson has been solid all season and is a key piece of their midfield; however, that doesn't always translate to subsequent fantasy production.
Daniel McStay
Quiet in Saturday's victory
FBrisbane Lions
September 19, 2020
McStay finished with just five disposals (three kicks, two handballs), three tackles and one mark in Saturday's 78-61 victory over Carlton.
ANALYSIS
In one of McStay's poorer performances for the season, the forward struggled to have an impact in the wet conditions. Despite the teams' success this season, McStay has failed to reach any great heights outside of the occasional strong performance.
Callum Ah Chee
Grabs 10 marks in victory
MBrisbane Lions
September 19, 2020
Ah Chee ended with 13 disposals (nine kicks, four handballs), 10 marks and two tackles in Saturday's 78-61 victory over the Blues.
ANALYSIS
Playing in his 16th game of the season, Ah Chee stepped up for the Lions, grabbing a career-best 10 marks as they soundly defeated the Blues on what was a wet night in Brisbane. The victory moves the Lions to the top of the ladder and gives them a realistic shot at their first-ever minor premiership, pending the result of the Port Adelaide game on Sunday.
Brandon Starcevich
In for Round 18
DBrisbane Lions
September 18, 2020
Starcevich (concussion) has been included in the Lions' Round 18 lineup versus Carlton.
ANALYSIS
Starcevich wasn't able to rejoin the action last round due to lingering concussion concerns but he seems to be in a good spot for the home-and-away finale and, barring a setback of some kind, should be available for the finals.
Stefan Martin
Back in lineup
RBrisbane Lions
September 18, 2020
Martin (back) will return to the lineup for the Lions' home-and-away finale Saturday versus the Blues.
ANALYSIS
Martin was deemed sidelined for up to eight weeks with a stress fracture in his back but has made it back in time to knock off some of the rust before the Lions begin their finals run. The ruckman knocks Archie Smith out of the lineup in his return.
Lincoln McCarthy
Ready for Round 18
MBrisbane Lions
September 18, 2020
McCarthy (thigh) will return to action in Round 18 versus the Blues.
ANALYSIS
McCarthy sat out the Lions' previous tilt due to a thigh issue and was previously on a one-match ban, but he's back in full force with a tune-up game ahead in Round 18 before the finals fire up in early October.
Jarryd Lyons
Takes over in win
MBrisbane Lions
September 13, 2020
Lyons scored one major and one behind to go with 20 disposals (13 kicks, seven handballs) and made three tackles during Sunday's 73-51 over Sydney.
ANALYSIS
Lyons had to take the reins in midfield with Lachie Neale struggling to make an impact throughout Saturday's match. Though not his best performance, Lyons still made an impact to maintain the Lions' control in midfield. Even when Lyons doesn't get many touches, he's still a player that works extremely hard and has consistent value on a weekly basis.
Charlie Cameron
Kicks two majors in win
FBrisbane Lions
September 13, 2020
Cameron kicked two majors and scored one behind to go with 12 disposals (10 kicks, two handballs) from Sunday's 73-41 win over Sydney.
ANALYSIS
Cameron has kicked majors in just two of his last five matches during a quiet run-in to the finals for the Lions star. Luckily for the team, there's a lot of options from which to find goals, and that was proved during an explosion of a fourth quarter Sunday. However, this doesn't help his fantasy value who needs goals to be relied upon each week. Before the finals begin, Cameron will have one more shot to build up his form against a struggling Carlton.
